A vacant lot in the old quarter of Panama City was reforested with endemic species of trees. I followed protocol established by Smithsonian reforestation projects, selecting nitrogen-fixing species due to the poor soil quality. Nature is not valued in urban Panama, and nothing is more sacred than the real estate boom. Real estate in spanish is bienes raices, hence the title Raices, with it’s double meaning. This mini forest will eventually be cut down, as are many others, for the sake of urban growth and development.
